Time It Right

Thailand tends to be busiest in October to April when temperatures drop slightly (and Australians and New Zealanders take their summer holiday), so if you’re planning your visit in this time, be prepared for the crowds. Or, if you’re looking to save money, summer months tend to be the cheaper option for visiting the area if you can handle the heat. It’s worth looking up the festivals that Thailand has on offer throughout the year – the Lantern Festival and Songkran are two unique yet awesome festivals in Chiang Mai.

Understand the Culture

Before you travel anywhere, it’s important to know what to expect of the locals. Thailand is known as the land of smiles, smiling will get you a long way on your Thai travels. Those cheek muscles will get a wicked workout. It’s also important to note that Thai people consider the head the most sacred part of the body, so you should never touch another person’s head. Who’d have known?

Soak It All In

What trip to Thailand would be complete without experiencing the vibrant culture and buzz of the capital? Bangkok has so much to take in, so don’t make the mistake of only planning to pass through or spend only one night in the city. A few days will allow you to see the entire city offers. Spend a day bartering at the floating market, gaze at the intricate architecture of the temples, or experience the buzz in some of the most interesting bars and clubs you will step foot in. You won’t regret extending your visit.

Last Minute Luck

If you’re not sure of your exact itinerary, or are picking your destinations as you go, you probably don’t want to book accommodation ahead- lucky for you, Thailand isn’t short of beds! Turning up at hostels and guesthouses means you’ll be able to save lots of money, so you’ll have more to spend on the sights. So be spontaneous, Thailand welcomes it.

Pay the Right Price

When travelling around Thailand you’ll have so many modes of transport to choose from, whether it’s zooming through crowds in a Tuktuk, or pedaling over silky sands, there are so many methods to choose from. Be careful though, especially if hiring a taxi or boarding a Tuktuk, as the prices can be very varied, so it’s a good idea to agree on a fare before you set off. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thailand really is full of treasures. Enjoy!
