Nessebar is an ancient town which is an especially interesting place for history buffs to visit as it’s home to a great number of well-preserved churches from the 13th – 14th centuries, many of which are considered UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Church of Saint Stephen was originally dedicated to the Holy Mother so the walls are painted with intricate murals which detail the Holy Mother’s life. In total, the church has 258 mural paintings which feature more than 1000 figures!

Whether or not you’re religious, seeing the amount of dedication that went into creating the artworks that adorn the walls is truly breath-taking and makes the church well worth a visit.
